THE SILENT GONDOLIERS is a small book written by William Goldman (a.k.a. Morgenstern;-) the author of THE PRINCESS BRIDE. If that facts alone doesn't make you want to run out and get it, I can assure you, it is a wonderful read!/5.

The culmination of that is "The Silent Gondoliers," a very short book--only pages, that bears absolutely no resemblence to "The Princess Bride." I silent gondoliers book grateful for this. If the whole thing had just been a rehash of the Princess Bride, it would have made Morgensten a panderer/5(5).

I like "The Silent Gondoliers" better. It has a zany style like The Princess Bride, and it has an amusing story, and it's fun to read. I found it more than that, though. Luigi comes across as a real human being. I found his struggles to deal with life heartwarming as well as amusing. Not that the book is serious and moralizing, though/5(31).

But, alas, few remember those days—and fewer still were ever blessed to hear such glorious singing. This review will begin with a disclaimer. I first read The Silent Gondoliers in and have lobbied the editors and publishers at Del Rey to reprint the book ever since.

I'm glad to say that William Goldman's novella stands up to another reading after all these years. A quirky, funny, offbeat fable by the author of "The Princess Bride" is now available in a new trade paperback edition.

Readers learn that the gondoliers of Venice once had the finest singing voices in the world until the mysterious day their voices went silent. The Silent Gondoliers is the lesser-known (but equally wonderful) book written by S.

If the whole thing had just been a rehash of the Princess Bride, it would have made Morgensten a panderer/5(30). ''THE Silent Gondoliers,'' on the other hand, is indeed less ingenuous than it first appears.
